Quality & Inspection

Quality & Inspection for Automotive Production

OpTech Automotive inspects, sorts, and contains suspect parts against your spec, with a documented result on every piece, so a defect stops at our station instead of yours.

What Is Third-Party Quality Inspection?

Third-party quality inspection is an independent provider inspecting, sorting, or containing a manufacturer’s parts against spec and documenting the result. It differs from the in-process checks built into a production program, because it is called in on a suspect population rather than running continuously alongside work already being performed.

Inspection Scope

What Quality & Inspection Covers

OpTech Automotive runs quality as a program we are accountable for, not a crew handed a bin and a flashlight. The work is scoped to the defect, the population, and the deadline, on your floor or ours, with a documented result on every piece rather than a sampled conclusion after the fact.

Where this sits against our other programs: the checks built into In-House Managed Labor, External Warehousing, Just-In-Time Sequencing, and Assembly Services run continuously on work OpTech Automotive is already performing. Quality & Inspection is what you call in on parts we never touched.

Third-Party vs. In-House

Third-Party Inspection vs. Sorting It In-House

Most plants sort in-house first, because it is the fastest thing to reach for. The distinction matters when the sort runs longer than a shift, or when the record has to be shown to someone else.

Independent Record

Checked by Someone With No Stake

An in-house sort is performed by the same organization that made or accepted the part. A third-party sort is performed by people with no stake in the result, which is exactly why a customer asks for one.

Surge Capacity

The Sort Does Not Rob the Line

An in-house sort is staffed by pulling operators off the line, so the sort competes with production for the same people. OpTech Automotive brings the headcount to the sort instead of taking it from the build.

Escape Accountability

An Escape Is Ours to Answer For

An in-house sort makes the escape your problem twice, once as the defect and once as the failed containment. OpTech Automotive is accountable for the inspection we perform and for escapes traced back to our process.

What's Included

What a Quality & Inspection Program Includes

Scope is built around the defect, the suspect population, and the deadline your customer has set. These are the areas a program typically covers.

Need coverage for something not listed here? Scope is defined during the capability assessment, not pulled from a standard service menu.

Inspection & Sorting
Inspection to your criteria and boundary samples
100 percent sorting of a suspect population
Counts recorded by defect mode, not one pass or fail
Rework and repackaging where the defect is correctable
Gauge, fixture, and dimensional checks to your criteria
Suspect material segregated and identified to your standard
Containment & Response
Containment across every location the material sits
Response window committed in the capability assessment
Controlled shipping support scoped to the level imposed
Escalation to a named coordinator on the shift it happens
On-site coverage at your plant or your customer’s plant
Coverage across every production shift
Documentation & Program Control
Inspection criteria recorded before the sort starts
Defect documentation and traceability
Operator sign-offs and training records retained
Escape rate reported against a stated denominator
Records assembled to be shown in a customer or OEM audit
Work performed under quality management practices aligned to ISO 9001

Getting to Contained

From Call to Contained

Four steps. No lengthy vendor onboarding, and no handoff to a subcontractor you have never met. One coordinator owns the program from scoping through reporting.

01

Capability Assessment

We walk the defect, the suspect population, the locations it sits in, and the deadline your customer has set, to scope what the response actually needs to cover.

02

Program Design

Inspection criteria, boundary samples, staffing, response window, and the documentation package are built against your customer’s requirement, not a generic template.

03

Containment Launch

The sort runs live, with documentation and escalation active from the first piece rather than reconstructed afterward.

04

Ongoing Reporting

Defect modes, escape rate, and disposition are reported continuously, and the record is assembled as you go rather than at closeout.

Quality Questions

Quality & Inspection FAQs

The questions quality, supplier development, and production teams ask when a suspect population has to be cleared on a deadline.

Third-party quality inspection is an independent provider inspecting, sorting, or containing a manufacturer's parts against spec and documenting the result on every piece. It is used when a suspect population has to be cleared, or when a customer requires a check performed by someone other than the supplier who made the part.

Inspection checks parts against spec and records the result. Sorting separates a suspect population into good and bad, usually at 100 percent. Containment is the wider action that stops suspect material moving anywhere, at every location it sits, until the sort is finished. Inspection is a task, sorting is a method, containment is a state.

Response time depends on location, shift, part volume, and whether the work runs at your plant or ours. OpTech Automotive scopes a committed response window during the capability assessment rather than quoting a number that ignores those variables. A containment that starts late is a containment that already failed.

OpTech Automotive is accountable for the inspection we perform and for escapes traced back to our process, including the documentation that shows what was checked. What that accountability covers financially is set in the program agreement rather than assumed, and it is scoped during the capability assessment before any commitment is made.

Controlled Shipping Level 1 adds a redundant one hundred percent inspection the supplier runs itself. Level 2 adds a further independent inspection by a third party. Exit is earned by proving root cause, irreversible corrective action, and a clean record over a period the customer sets. Whether OpTech can run a given level is scoped in the capability assessment.

Records are built to be shown, not reconstructed later. Inspection criteria, work instructions, operator sign-offs, defect counts, and disposition are captured as the work happens and retained. Which records feed a specific PPAP submission or customer audit is confirmed during program design, since requirements differ by customer and by part.

Escape rate is the number of defective parts that pass inspection and are later found downstream, measured against the total inspected. It only means something when the denominator and the detection point are both stated. OpTech Automotive defines both during program design, then reports against them continuously rather than at contract renewal.

On-site coverage at a customer's plant is common when a containment is active, since that is often where suspect material sits. Access, badging, and safety onboarding are arranged through you, and the scope of what our people can and cannot do inside that plant is agreed before anyone reports to the gate.

The checks built into our managed labor, warehousing, and sequencing programs run continuously on work OpTech Automotive is already performing. Quality and Inspection is a standalone program you call in on parts we did not touch, when a suspect population, a customer demand, or a launch requires an independent check.

ISO 9001 is the general quality management standard. IATF 16949 is the automotive-specific standard built on top of it, and it is the one an automotive quality buyer asks about first. OpTech Automotive's quality processes are aligned to ISO 9001, and we're confirming current certification status.

Stop the Defect Before Your Customer Does

Tell us the defect, the population, and the deadline and we will scope a capability assessment. We review what your customer has imposed and where the suspect material sits, then come back with a containment plan built on your clock.
